Clare Bowditch - New album ‘Modern Day Addiction’ out 13 August 2010

It’s been a long time coming but Clare Bowditch’s fourth studio album, Modern Day Addiction (out 13 August 2010), is very much worth the wait.

Modern Day Addiction is a contagious, satirical, yet heart-achingly tender album about humanity and “the eternal search for meaning” in a world of quick, delicious fixes. It stands as a companion on the journey for anyone who’s ever asked the question “Surely there must be more?” followed by the statement “If so, great, I’ll pop back for it once I’ve finished reading this article about absolute-rubbish-that-somehow-has-me-transfixed-to-the-screen…everyone SHUT UP! I’m concentrating…”

As Clare tells it (and who knows if she’s telling the truth? Have you noticed how all her stories these days begin with “I woke up one morning”?)

“I woke up one morning and my heart was broken (just in the usual, everyday way) and all I wanted was a muffin, and a tall glass of combined coffee and Jagermeister, even though I was neither hungry, nor thirsty, which prompted the thought ‘Hmm, how very interesting! Perhaps there’s an album in here somewhere?’  Thus began my extensive and exhaustive research-project into the topic of ‘Everyday Addiction and the Human Condition’. Oh the reading list was endless, I tell you, I’ve barely left the local-newsagency since…”

In a most enjoyable and surprising way, Modern Day Addiction also aims to celebrate and question the modern world that produced it.

The only way to tell a story THIS BIG is to gather a “chops-heavy” band of eight around you (aka The New Slang) including three incredible back-up singers (Clare’s oft-referred to Lady Garden), a small plane-full of instruments, sing-along lyric sheets, and hit the road. Hard. (We’re talking some of Australia’s finest venues: Melbourne’s Forum, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Hobart’s Ca$ino !$!)

For old-fashioned value, Modern Day Addiction can be pre-ordered from www.clarebowditch.comwhere you will get a limited edition digi-pack personally signed by Clare, a poster and your choice of any one of her previous three albums delivered digitally for free!  Or if you are planning on buying tickets from any of the online ticket outlets below, you will also have the option of pre-ordering the album to be delivered at a later date, all in one convenient transaction.

As a final masterstroke, Clare is throwing in “FREE!” the unique chance for you and some mates to hang out with her, and her Lady Garden, pre-show, for a dash of personalised “audience-participation tutelage” (this is where they teach you the tricky parts to their songs. Dance moves excluded from this offer, except in rare circumstances…OH WHAT THE HEY! ).  Visit www.clarebowditch.com to register and become a fully integral part of the bestest concerts ever!

Live at the Quarry Update

Sarah Blasko cut the ribbon on the 2009/10 season of Live At The Quarry just two weeks ago over four sold out nights, where we marvelled at her colourful, chrysalis costumes and confetti!

After such a magnificent start, Tim Finn followed up by reminding everyone why we've adopted him as one of our own and exploring his amazing back catalogue with vastly different sets each night.

And next, we can't wait to experience The Church 'under the milky way', and hope you're one of the few lucky people who have tickets to these sold out gigs....

If you're yet to experience The Quarry and don't have tickets to a show as of yet, The Ten Tenors is your only chance for the remainder of the season. This summer, you need to spend at least one evening enjoying this ethereal venue!

2 November 2009 - the church | All Shows Sold Out!

the church | All Shows Sold Out!

Proving their place in Australian music history is as assured as ever, The Church have now sold out both their dates this December, Live At The Quarry.  It follows another successful season at the Quarry, which has seen all Sarah Blasko’s dates sold out as well as The Ten Tenors and Tim Finn being well on their way, both with multiple nights sold out as well.  Just like last season – where every Live At The Quarry event was a sell out – the Quarry is the West Australian venue to be at this summer!

The Church’s latest album continues to gain the classic Australian band a new audience all over again, both here and overseas. In their June 2009 5 star review of Untitled #23, Rolling Stone praised the band: “The Church, like Nick Cave, have never called it quits, instead continuing to evolve and experiment with music in a way that puts ‘cutting edge’ rock dinosaurs like U2 to shame,” even commenting that The Church displayed “studio-smarts that are seldom seen these days outside of Sigur Rós recordings.” Highly regarded one-stop critic shop metacritic.com currently has the album rated at 82/100, making it one of the year’s best received albums universally.
